Murals

Where history colors walls. The WallDogs story in Danville, Illinois, is a powerful example of how art can bring a community’s history to life. In August 2010, more than 100 mural artists from around the world came together for a special “Walldog meet,” transforming downtown buildings into large, colorful murals that celebrate the city’s past. These artists, inspired by early sign painters who hand-painted advertisements on walls, recreated that tradition by designing murals that highlight Danville’s people, businesses, and cultural heritage. In just a few days, they painted over a dozen murals, each telling a different story—from famous local figures to historic events, turning blank walls into visual history. Today, these murals continue to share Danville’s story, bringing pride to residents and attracting visitors who walk through the city to experience its history painted across its walls
