The Middle Fork is part of the National Wild & Scenic Rivers System, the only river so designated in Illinois. It is protected by state and federal law for its oustanding scenic, recreational, ecological, and historical characteristics. The icons at the four corners of the mural indicate the beauty and recreational possibilities the river offers in every season.
The mural is located inside Palace Park next to the Fischer Theatre.
