Natural Dye Day at Forest Glen Preserve
FREE Event!
Forest Glen Preserve – Pioneer Homestead Cabin
If historical textiles, homesteading, or crafting pique your interest, you’ll find this event both informative and enjoyable.
Local fiber artists will be running a Natural Dye Day event at the Pioneer Homestead Cabin in Forest Glen Preserve. This event is an opportunity to drop-in and ask questions about the art of spinning fur into yarn, dyeing it, then crafting custom pieces. The process of dyeing the fiber over an open fire using natural ingredients like walnuts and goldenrod takes nearly a full day. The artists will use this time to knit, share, and converse with visitors, much like communities would have done for centuries.
To dye your own pieces, please arrive by 9:00am.
Materials Charge: $10. Bring 1 oz samples to dye, or purchase samples on site.
