FischerFest: The Life and Legacy of Dick Van Dyke

Danville, IL – One of the entertainment industry’s most beloved stars is turning 100 in
December and the Fischer Theatre in Danville, Illinois is throwing a national party for one
of Danville’s favorite sons!
The Fischer Theatre is proud to announce it will host the national premiere of the official
Dick Van Dyke documentary: Dick Van Dyke: 100 Celebration. The official screening will
kick off the Dick Van Dyke Festival (FischerFest: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Dick
Van Dyke presented by the Halloran Family Foundation), taking place at The Fischer
Theatre on December 6 & 7. The festival will also feature a full day of his classic films,
interactive art activities, and a community birthday tribute to honor Mr. Van Dyke’s 100th
birthday.

Filled with laughter, music, and touching moments, Dick Van Dyke: 100th Celebration, a
feature-length film from Emmy-winning filmmakers Steve Boettcher and Michael Trinklein
honors the unmatched career of an actor, singer, dancer, and comedian extraordinaire — a
true American treasure. The film weaves together classic TV and film clips, heartfelt
interviews with Van Dyke and his legendary co-stars, and a moving visit with the star to
his hometown of Danville, Illinois. The film offers a first-hand account of the man behind
the performances, drawing from three decades of interviews conducted by the
filmmakers with Van Dyke’s co-stars including Mary Tyler Moore, Carl Reiner, Rose Marie,
Morey Amsterdam, Betty White, and Tim Conway. Distributed by Fathom Entertaiment,
the film will be in theaters nationwide for two days only—December 13 and 14—during
Dick Van Dyke’s 100th birthday weekend.

On Saturday evening, guests will be treated to a live art demonstration and
entertainment, access to the Fischer’s extensive Dick Van Dyke memorabilia collection,
hors d’oeuvres, surprise announcements and the national premiere of the Dick Van Dyke
documentary.
Before each film on Sunday, Chuck Koplinski will share the film’s behind-the-scenes facts
and interesting anecdotes. After each film, he will offer a Q&A with the audience for 10
minutes. Chuck is known for his work on the show Reel Talk with Chuck & Pam, where
they review movies and streaming series. They are based in Chicago and Central Illinois.
Food will be provided for the December 6 event by The Local from 5-6:30 PM in the lobby
– heavy appetizers. Fischer concessions will be available for both days of the event.
Local Artist Katie Weston will create a live, date-stamped portrait of Dick Van Dyke during
the Saturday evening event. Members of the Danville Symphony Orchestra will also
provide musical entertainment.
Custom, commemorative t-shirts will be available for purchase. Dick Van Dyke photos and
memorabilia will be on display from the Fischer’s extensive collection. Original artwork by
John Jansky will also be on display. Themed cocktails and trivia questions will round out
the weekend fun.
As a special tribute, a giant canvas “birthday card” will be available all weekend for
everyone to stop by and add their signature. After the event, the canvas will be rolled up
and mailed to Dick Van Dyke as his 100 Birthday present from Danville.
