DESCRIPTION:Maple Syrup Fest at Forest Glen Preserve. \nThis event will showcase Forest Glen’s maple syrup with a variety of activities for people of all ages. Watch the sap collected turn into syrup at the Sugar Bush. Tap a metal spike into a tree trunk. \nGuided hikes along Willow Creek Trail that will begin every 30 minutes until 1 pm. Tour the Pioneer Homestead Cabin. \nVisit the Nature Center for a kid’s craft activity. Enjoy a taste of Forest Glen maple syrup with a French Toast Stick and Sausage Basket fee required at the Gannett Education Center. \nPlease note there will be limited seating for eating at the Gannett Education Center. If available\, the Forest Glen Maple Syrup will be for sale at the Gannett Education Center as well. \nAll activities are free with the exception of the French Toast and Sausage basket ($6) and Forest Glen Maple Syrup Pints ($15) or Quarts ($30). \nThis event will take place in lieu of the Maple Syrup Pancake and Sausage Breakfast due to current Gannett Education Center renovations. Our character plants\, mines\, forages and reconnects to their world after leaving corporate Joja. We can explore these hobbies IRL as well. Join us as we bring together adult nature nerds and gamer geeks through this Stardew Valley inspired series of beginner-friendly presentations and activities. \n  \nIn the first of the series on February 28\, 2pm\, at Forest Glen Preserve\, we will stay indoors and check out the minerals that can be found in-game. We will use properties like color\, hardness\, and streak to identify rocks and minerals with guest presenter Hannah Veldhuizen from the Illinois State Geological Survey. This event is an opportunity to drop-in and ask questions about the art of spinning fur into yarn\, dyeing it\, then crafting custom pieces. The process of dyeing the fiber over an open fire using natural ingredients like walnuts and goldenrod takes nearly a full day. The artists will use this time to knit\, share\, and converse with visitors\, much like communities would have done for centuries. \nTo dye your own pieces\, please arrive by 9:00am.\nMaterials Charge: $10.
