SUMMARY:Classical Trio performs at DACC
DESCRIPTION:Danville Area Community College is hosting three virtuoso musicians in a concert on Sun.\, Nov. 19 at 3 p.m. in Jacobs Hall. \nViolinist Ji Myung Kim\, pianist Melita Lasek Satterwhite\, and cellist Barbara Hedlund have all achieved acclaim as concert performers. By special invitation from DACC’s Distinguished Professor of Music Eric Simonson\, the trio will present a concert titled\, “Trio Fanfarrón: Artistic Responses to Colonialism.” \nThe concert theme focuses on African American composers.  Says Dr. Simonson\, “These are composers whose music has been wrongfully overlooked due to their marginalized status in society.” \nAs for the musicians\, violinist Ji Myung Kim has performed all over the world\, including before the queen of Denmark\, the prime minister of Japan\, and two former presidents of his native South Korea. Dr. Kim is the instructor of violin and viola at Eastern Illinois University. \nMelita Lasek Satterwhite has regularly starred as the featured pianist in concerts for the president of her native Croatia. Married to a former Danville resident David Satterwhite\, Dr. Lasek Satterwhite directs Croatia’s School of Arts Matko Brajša Rašan. \nCellist Barbara Hedlund has been a Broadway performer whose musical talents has earned her a share of Emmy\, Tony\, and Grammy awards. Along with performing as the principal cellist for the Danville Symphony Orchestra\, Ms. Hedlund has enjoyed success as solo and recording artist\, fine arts administrator\, and university professor. \nAlong with the three featured performers\, the concert will include musical contributions from Dr. Simonson as well as two orchestral singers\, bass-baritone Ronald Hedlund and soprano Kelli Holden. \nJacobs Hall is located on the south end of the DACC campus. A former Carnegie Library\, the building’s majestic columns and domed ceiling have proven to provide marvelous acoustical balance for musical performances. \nTickets are $5 and will be sold from the south entrance. For people unable to mount the 20-step entrance\, a side door provides elevator service to the gallery level.
