SUMMARY:Lamon House Open
DESCRIPTION:The Vermilion County Museum Society will open The Lamon House the first Sunday of each month from May through October from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Becky and Alan Woodrum portraying Melissa Beckwith Lamon and Hiram Beckwith will be on hand to greet visitors and talk about early Danville History. \nThe Lamon House was built by Joseph B. and Melissa Beckwith Lamon around 1847 on the last town lot owned by the Beckwith family.  \nThe home\, which originally only had four main rooms\, is split log construction under clapboard. In 1982\, the house was donated to the Vermilion County Museum.  \nOriginally located at 302 W. North St.\, the house was moved to Lincoln Park in 1984 and renovated. Some of the furnishings are original to the house. The Lamon House is probably the oldest frame residence in Danville. The home was preserved by the Museum Society in honor of Abe Lincoln’s bodyguard and partner Ward Hill Lamon.  \nThere is no charge to tour the Lamon House\, however museum staff said donations are always accepted and can be given at the end of the tour. \nAdditional tour times will be announced on the Vermilion County Museum’s Facebook page throughout the season. \nWith the most currently slated during Arts in the Park celebration in Lincoln Park on June 27 and 28\, 2026. \nFor more information\, call the museum at 217-442-2922 or visit www.vermilioncountymuseum.org  \nhttps://vermilioncountymuseum.org/lamon-house/ \n
