Middle Fork State Fish and Wildlife Area borders Illinois’ only Wild and Scenic River. Designed as the state’s first Scenic River in 1986, and named a National Wild and Scenic River in 1990, the Middle Fork branch of the Vermilion River flows through Vermilion County on the state’s eastern border.
