Lindley Sign Post Forest

Information

The original Sign Post Forest was started in 1942 by U.S. Army G.I., Carl K. Lindley of Danville who was with company D, 341st Engineers at Watson Lake in the Yukon Territory.  The homesick Lindley posted a sign point at Mile 635 of the Alcan Road pointing the way home along with the mileage of 2232 miles.  Soon others followed his lead and there are now over 65,000 signs posted in the same location.  The sign post forest was noted in the beginning of each TV broadcast of MASH.

Walldog artists helped begin Danville’s own Lindley Sign Post Forest helping paint signs for visitors and residents wanting to remember their home towns.  Those wanting their own sign can contact the Danville Area Visitors Bureau for informaiton.
